Appeal and event segmentation

Typically, sending an appeal involves coming up with different segments that you want to reach, and customizing the appeal for each one. LGL allows you to define these segments for each appeal (or event) and then track the response. Events offer additional tracking in the form of flagging who has RSVP’d and who actually attended. In both cases, a record of the event invitation or appeal request will appear in the Related Activity section of the constituent details.
Add segments to your appeal or event
After you have created your event and appeal, you can start adding segments and defining the constituents within each segment.
To create your first segment, click on the Add segment button, within the appeal (or event):

Search for and select constituents for your segment
Building a segment works the same as building lists of constituents within the Constituents tab. You can follow these instructions to set up the list of constituents you want to add to your first segment.
Adding multiple segments
If you want to send multiple letters to different segments of your donor and prospect base, you can do that by creating additional segments. In this case, you might have a few different categories:
- Segment 1 $1000 + donors (donors who've given more than $1000 at any point)

- Segment 2 $500 + donors (donors who've given $500 at any point)

- Segment 3 Everyone else

Once you have added all of these, you will end up with a set like this with a total of 100 total, unique constituents assigned to this appeal:

Segments are arranged in priority order, which you can change at any point. Constituents can be in more than one segment list, but will only appear in their highest-ranked segment.
Sending mail to a particular segment
You can create mailings for each segment independently, which allows you to customize your communications more easily. To create a mailing for a segment, click on the Add mailing action:
