What kind of information can I Import into LGL?

The Flex Importer allows you to import all types of records into your LGL account. The fields that you can import are described in the LGL Data Dictionary:

Files can be imported in multiple formats:

  • CSV: Comma separated values. This is the recommend file format.
  • Excel: Either .xls or .xlsx files can be imported. Note: With excel files, only the first worksheet will be imported, and you must be careful to ensure that date fields are formatted as Date values.

With the Flex Importer, files should have their field names in the first row of each column, but the names do not have to be unique, nor do they have to match exactly to the field names in the data dictionary. The fields in each file can be mapped to the appropriate field in LGL as a part of the import process.

Here are some common kinds of files you might import using the Flex Importer:

  • Constituent contact information from an existing donor database or other data source
  • Constituent and gift information from your online payment processor - for example PayPal, Google Checkout, or some other online donation provider
  • Constituent and gift information from QuickBooks (transaction, client and account information)
  • Event participation and giving information from an event management product like EventBrite
  • Volunteering information from any source

You may also find this reference document handy as an example of how you can structure your files for import.

Note: There is no need for your column names to conform to those used in the above example.
