Add a new mailing
To add a new mailing, click on the Add mailing button:

To create new mailing template, you can leave the default settings in place, and the choose a name and category for your template. If you are planning to use this template for acknowledgments, you can leave the category as Acknowledgment and then name it appropriately (for example, "Thank You Standard: FY 12")

The process is the same for adding new mailings to a particular list or constituent, with the exception that you would choose the list or constituent to send it to, as opposed to choosing to create a template.
Set mailing preferences
The next step is to configure the appropriate mailing options, like whether or not to print labels, letters, and/or envelopes, which type of letter you want to generate (PDF or Word) and the access permissions. You can also choose to sort the letters by postal code, which is useful if you want to qualify for a discounted bulk mail rate.

Choosing the right format
If your letter requires heavy formatting, we recommend using the "Word (docx)" option for generating letters. This allows you to upload a pre-formatted Microsoft Word document (with LGL merge fields in place), and allows the most flexibility and control over the final letter format. You can do things like embed signature image and add your own letter head, as well as choose any font you like, etc. If you choose this format, you can upload the template directly in the mailing form, like so:

Note: This option will only work if you are using a Word 2007 or later.
Alternatively, you can choose to generate letters as PDF documents, in which case you can author the letter directly within the mailing form (see below for details on that).
Set mailing options
Based on your choices of which types of files to generate with your mailing, you can configure the different options for each:
- Address Block: Set the address block fields. The [[addressee]] field is usually the full name of the constituent, as you'd like it to display on the envelope/label.
- Labels: You can also choose the positioning of the text on the label and the font size. Here you can also choose to generate labels in Microsoft Word (docx) format, which gives you the ability to edit the labels before printing.
- Envelopes: No. 10 and No. 9 are standard options, but you can set custom dimensions for envelopes at any size.
- Letters: For PDF letters you can choose the page size (letter, legal, or custom); set the font, font size, and page orientation/layout; and define the margins.
Write the letter
If you have chosen to generate PDF letters, you can write the letter within the mailing form. When doing this, you can select any of the available merge fields for insertion into the document, by clicking on the field in question:
